Over the last two months they have been in the media spotlight for leaked Snapchat photos, the VMA awards and the crowds they have attracted to their US concerts.
But now there is another reason.
The Hawkesbury band, 5 Seconds of Summer, announced on Sunrise on Tuesday morning that they are hosting a competition for their fans worldwide.
The winner of the Derp Con 2014 competition will be flown to LA with a friend to attend Derp Con and then hang out with the band at The Forum: their biggest headline show to date.
‘‘We are very excited to announce the 5SOS Convention,’’ the band posted on their official website.
‘‘This is us bringing people from all over the world to Los Angeles to fight ninjas and internet haters and join in some serious banding,’’ the band members wrote.
The worldwide competition which launched last week will run until early November.
To enter the competition, fans must head over to Westfield Liverpool on October 1-5 and face the 5SOS fan cam hosted by The Bump Show.
Fans will need to answer a 5SOS question live on camera.
The camera will be at the centre from 10am-5pm each day.
But the fan craze doesn’t stop there.
Sydney-based fans went into meltdown last week when the band announced they were coming home to perform two of their smash hits live on the XFactor in coming weeks. A date has not yet been released.
