The Richmond Jubilee this Saturday, September 20, will be a fun family day for locals and tourists, while boosting hospitality and retail business in Richmond and around the Hawkesbury.
The Jubilee has been a mammoth undertaking for organiser Richmond Mainstreet Inc, which estimates 2000 visitors will flock to the town for the historic event, which promises to be a boon for business.
‘‘If they all spend $20 each it’ll be a big boost to tourism for Richmond’s main street,’’ Richmond Mainstreet Inc secretary Venecia Wilson told the Gazette.
The park will be crammed with stalls from local businesses, including the Richmond Good Food Market, and shopping arcades on Windsor Street will also feature stalls, displays and specials from local shops and cafes.
A Victorian-era cricket match will be played on Richmond oval, there’ll be storytelling under a tree near the play area in the park, quoits, photograph sessions with historic dress-ups and street performances.
Emergency Services will be in the carpark of the old Post Office, and heritage walking tours of Richmond will leave from the front yard of Toxana.
To commemorate 150 years of rail service between Sydney and Richmond, steam train rides will run between Richmond and Mulgrave on Saturday during the Jubilee, and on Sunday, September 21.
The Jubilee coincides with the Clarendon Classic Machinery Rally at Hawkesbury Showground on Saturday and Sunday.
