Hobartville Public School special education teacher Kristyne Smith has won a 2014 Premier’s Teacher Scholarship to fund a study into iPads as assistive technology in inclusive education.
Ms Smith was one of 22 NSW teachers to receive a scholarship during a ceremony at NSW Parliament House last month.
Ms Smith receives $10,000 to fund a five-week study tour.
“The aim of this study is to research and identify examples of best practice when utilising iPad technology and share examples of high quality teaching with other professionals,” Ms Smith told the Gazette.
“With new technologies, specifically iPad technology, available for students with special educational needs, it is important to provide an opportunity for students to utilise the latest technologies to support their individualised education plans and improve personal learning outcomes, levels of engagement and independence.”
Ms Smith will travel to Florida in January to attend the Assistive Technology Industry Association Conference and the 16th International DADD conference Autism, Intellectual Disability, & Developmental Disabilities.
