HAWKESBURY City is enjoying one of their most successful seasons in recent times, and there’s still more to come.
The Hawks have won five premierships in 2014 with the under 13s division 2 side still to play their grand final this weekend.
The highlight came on Sunday when the club’s A-Grade side beat Penrith Waratahs 14-10 to win the premiership after remaining undefeated all season.
A-Grade trainer Lisa Humphreys said the club had gone beyond expectations this season.
‘‘The club could not be happier with this result,’’ she said.
‘‘It is great testament to the dedication of our coaching staff, players and parents. We believe it is also the first time in history that all senior Sunday sides have been in grand finals.
‘‘The goal this year was to at least equal last year, with less teams this year, and we have passed that with flying colours.”
Humphreys, the only female trainer in the region, said her over-achieving club flew under the radar this season across all grades.
‘‘We are lucky to have the true dedication and Hawks support from all those in our club,’’ she said.
‘‘I think because we are so far away from other clubs, they really don’t take us seriously and write us off.’’
As the A-Grade trainer, she knows better than most just how well the squad has progressed to being undefeated champions of third division.
But the main goal is always to make your way into division 1 in Sunday football, but they will take their time.
‘‘Division 1 A-Grade will be a few years away yet,’’ Humphreys said.
‘‘A lot of our club favourites have hung up their boots this year and so has the coaching staff, but now begins the rebuild and something for our junior players to aspire to.’’
