Helping women across the Hawkesbury for 82 years, the Richmond Country Women’s Association (CWA) will offer the public a sneak peak into their way of life as part of the CWA awareness week from September 6 to 13.
Community members are invited to the open day on Wednesday, September 10, to meet the women who work hard to help improve the conditions for women and children in the Hawkesbury.
The day will include a hearty lunch and attendees will have the opportunity to meet and watch members design their unfinished arts and crafts.
Formed in 1932 with aims to fight isolation and lack of health facilties in the rural areas, the Richmond branch have raised more than $30,000 a year towards research, education grants, social activities as well as recreational and medical facilities.
President of the Richmond Branch, Lynette Dunn, said they pride themselves on being advocates for change.
‘‘Our main goals are to lobby for change, help the community, create a network of support and interact with each other,’’ Mrs Dunn said.
‘‘We all work very well together to make sure that the women and their families in the community are well looked after and have different avenues of help. Our team enjoy engaging with others to keep growing and making positive changes.’’
As part of the largest women’s organisation in Australia, we have been initiators, fighters, lobbyists and were very vocal with doing everything we could to stop the coal seam gas on farms.’’
The Richmond branch are always looking for women to become members and have a voice in the nation’s affairs, socialise with others and assist the community.
The open day will run from 10am to 2pm at the Richmond CWA room on West Market Street, Richmond.
