Hills Community Aid makes 1000th No Interest Loan payout

ARE you in extreme financial stress? Have you had to choose between paying the rent or putting food on the table?

Hills Community Aid can help, with its No Interest Loans scheme.

Yesterday Hills Community Aid marked its 1000th No Interest Loan payout, with a ceremony attended by Fair Trading Minister Matthew Mason-Cox and dozens of grateful  recipients.

Executive officer Ben Jackson said Hills Community Aid (HCA) has been helping people for over 40 years.

‘‘Last financial year we loaned over $260,000 to 280 clients: a 40 per cent increase from the year before, and that’s brought us to our 1000th loan milestone.

‘‘We’re seeing more people come to us in extreme stress. Our No Interest Loans provide immediate relief, while also helping clients learn money management skills.

‘‘Without this scheme many would turn to high interest payday lenders, creating cycles of debt leading to bankruptcy.’’

Mr Mason-Cox presented cheques to HCA’s most recent loan recipients and announced funding for the next 18 months.

Based in Baulkham Hills, HCA serves The Hills, Blacktown and the Hawkesbury.

Single parents, almost exclusively women, are common clients.

The most common things paid for with a No Interest Loan were fridges, CTP slips and car repairs.
