Swimmers face state's best

Ripples St Marys Swimming Club will send a strong contingent of swimmers to the 2014 NSW State Age Championships.

The event held from August 29-31 at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre is always the scene of plenty of medals for Ripples swimmers.

Ripples will send 22 swimmers who have qualified in a total of 89 events this year. Eleven relay teams will compete in 200-metre and 400-metre freestyle and medley relays.

Academy opportunities

Nominations are now open for gifted players wanting to be part of the Western Sydney Academy of Sport softball and netball programs.

Aspiring professional athletes can nominate to join a field of elite players vying for a spot on the development programs, until Wednesday, September 10.

Selections will be made at trials on September 16 for netball and on September 17 for softball.

U16s win league semi-final

St Marys Junior Rugby League club under-16s won their semi-final against Glenmore Park on the weekend.

A tight first half finished 6-6 at the break.

Saints barged over in the second half and Jonah Metuangaro converted, making the lead 12-6.

Then Metuangaro lined up and scored a field goal.

Glenmore Park scored once more to give a final score of 13-10.
