Free hearing tests

Free hearing tests will be held in Plumpton next week as part of Hearing Awareness Week.

Australian Hearing experts will be at Terry White Chemist Plumpton next Wednesday and Thursday (August 27-28), 9.30am to 4pm to provide free advice and hearing checks.

Those who already have hearing devices are invited to bring them to Australian Hearing Blacktown for a complimentary clean.

Australian Hearing provides subsidised hearing care for pensioners, veterans, anyone aged under-26, indigenous, over-50s and adults with complex health needs.

Indigenous choir

The Mount Druitt Indigenous Choir recently returned from a 4500-kilometre Freedom Tour which travelled to Central Queensland in July.

It celebrated the freedoms won by Aboriginal activists like Charlie Perkins.

The choir performed in Toowoomba, Cherbourg, Gladstone, Woorabinda, Rockhampton, Brisbane and Dreamworld.

"People were crying in the audience as they heard the children sing in the Sydney Dharug language and asking how they could also start choirs singing in their own local dialects," choir director David Armstrong said.

The choir consists of young people aged 3-15 years from Mount Druitt and Blacktown.
