Practical help for people seeking work opportunities

Blacktown Careers Expo

Blacktown Careers Expo

PEOPLE interested in finding local employment can attend a job market in Blacktown.

The Blacktown Job and Training Expo will be held on Thursday, August 28, at WSI's Blacktown College, South Campus, Main Street, Blacktown.

As well as providing linkage to local employers with current vacancies, the free expo will feature a job "boot camp" providing help with CV writing, applying for a job, tips for performing well in interviews and a free sausage sizzle.

WSI Employment Preparation, pathways and equity director Janet Elms-Smith, said there were a number of worthwhile job opportunities on offer.

"There are more than 400 jobs being offered by employers who will be present at the expo," she said.

"The opening of Sydney's third IKEA store in Marsden Park, for example, means that 260 jobs are on offer.

"Employers in sectors such as retail, construction, health, community service, tourism, hospitality, electrical, automotive, and business will be seeking to link up with people in the community."

The expo will take place from 10am to 2pm and will also feature massages by Blue Mountains College massage students.

"The expo is for job seekers, school students, and people looking to change careers," Ms Elms-Smith said.

"Those who come along can learn about the skills and qualifications needed to work in a range of vocations."

The free Blacktown Job and Training Expo is a partnership between Blacktown City and TAFE NSW — Western Sydney Institute.
