The Salvation Army has throughout its history built a reputation for trust.
This trust has meant that the community knows that when the Salvos come knocking, then it must be for a good reason; so much so that for the past financial year $11.1 million was donated by the greater west community to the organisation.
The donations came from all levels; corporations, businesses, trusts and foundations, mailing appeals and the most public of them all - the Doorknock Appeal.
Of the money raised, $7.3 million was donated to the disaster fund to support efforts to help bushfire victims.
Community Relations Director Steve Burfield said, ‘‘This is a tremendous effort from the community; this shows an amazing amount of trust and for that we are extremely grateful: thank you Western Sydney.’’
Fairfax Community Media was recently acknowledged for its support with presentation of special certificates of appreciation at its Bella Vista office.
