Kings and queens had whole rooms dedicated to the hanging of their robes. However unfair; those days are gone. Instead, renters on a budget would know that a good built-in wardrobe is hard to find.
If you're anything like Carrie Bradshaw and you prefer to have your money where you can see it – hanging in your closet – the absence of a wardrobe isn't an option.
Luckily, when left with little or no space for your clothes, there are some alternatives.
But first, Jan Favaloro of Rocksalt Interiors says, you need to figure out exactly what you want your wardrobe to store. And you will need a metre of space to be able to hang clothes, she says.
Keeping this in mind, here are five creative design ideas that will make your friends wish they didn't have a wardrobe either.
Hang a shipping rope between two corners
A really simple way to hang your clothes without the fuss of having to build an actual wardrobe.
Hang coathangers from the ceiling
Using hooks and cord, hang coathangers from the roof. Genius!
Clothes rack
A clothes rack is probably the easiest hanging solution and can be picked up quite cheaply.
Recycle old chairs
Rather than using chairs for sitting, they can double as a wardrobe, shelf included.
Buy a wardrobe made out of cardboard
A flat pack but not as you know it. This wardrobe from Karton is made out of cardboard and is affordable, durable and 100 per cent recycleable.
