Hills District have split their results against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, in Round 17 of the 2014 Waratah Championship League (WCL) competition.

The second-placed Hornets women were unstoppable in opening game of the night, crushing the last-placed Sea Eagles 87-29.

Five Hills District players hit double figures on the night, led by Kate Oliver (18 points, 14 boards), Bailey Toleafoa 18 points, 6 boards, 7 assists, Casey Samuels 18 points, Aloisa Aguilan 10 points, 5 assists and Zoe Burke 10 points, 6 assists.

The sixth-placed Hornets men are fighting a rear guard action to keep in contention for the upcoming playoff series and were involved in yet another high-scoring contest on the weekend, against the third-placed Sea Eagles.

The barn-storming Sea Eagles rushed to a 30-21 lead in the first term and would never relinquish that advantage.

The home team led 46-36 at half time and 68-55 at the end of the third term, before eventually winning 95-76.

David Hayman led the Hornets with 19 points, ahead of Jason Strong 18 and Josh Chapman 13 points and 10 boards.

Both Hills District teams are away to the Hornsby Spiders this Saturday, with the women's game to feature as the Game of the Week between the second and third-placed teams in the competition.

The Hornets men back up on Sunday, hosting the Central Coast Crusaders at 1pm at the Hills Basketball Stadium.

This should be a great weekend for the Hornets men, with two wins sure to propel them back into playoff contention.
