A Freemans Reach resident, who lives opposite a property where broken asbestos pipes were found, was concerned about the lack of transparency around the issue and not being kept informed.
Marla Skartvedt, of Hibberts Lane, said she was alerted to the contamination by a neighbour in early May. The pipes have since been removed.
‘‘This neighbour had seen old asbestos pipes being broken up, the large bits being removed from the property and the smaller bits simply rotary hoed into the soil,’’ Mrs Skartvedt said.
The work that exposed the broken pipes began in late December and there had been many emails, phone conversations and a meeting with Hawkesbury Council about the matter, she said.
Two occupational hygienist reports were also commissioned, the most recent in June.
‘‘To-date, as far as I can tell, no remedial action has been taken by the landowner, apart from removing large bits of asbestos and rotary hoeing the rest into the ground,’’ Mrs Skartvedt said.
