A new indoor sporting centre was opened at the Richmond RAAF Base last week after years of negotiations.
The indoor multi-purpose hall was built by personnel from the Richmond base as well as specialised civilian contractors from Windsor, while the project management was delivered by No. 22 Squadron and No. 95 Wing Airfield Engineering Flight.
Electrical, plumbing, concreting and remediation work was conducted by RAAF trades.
Project manager, Flight Lieutenant Michael Brady, said the construction of the building took 79 days.
‘‘Local workers from Windsor and internal personnel worked together on the building,’’ he said.
‘‘We reached out to the community to use their knowledge and experience during the process.
‘‘The requirement for a new gymnasium has been in discussion for well over a decade but funds were never made available,’’ Flight Lieutenant Brady said.
