Three people I would love to invite to dinner: Beethoven (before he went deaf); Freddie Mercury (wouldn't he and Beethoven be great to listen to); and Ritchie McCaw (All Black captain, ultimate sportsman, man with the heart of a lion).

The best advice I ever received was: Always do your best.

The most amazing thing I've ever done is: Run with the Olympic Torch in 2000.

If I was down to my last $10 I would spend it on: Flowers for my beloved wife.

My greatest fear is: Small enclosed spaces.

My fantasy job is: Ombudsman with power to arbitrarily fix political and bureaucratic unfair decisions.

If I could have a super power it would be: To make a lot of money and use it for the benefit of all.

My favourite phrase is . . .WASLYK (We are so lucky you know) — a mantra for all people in retirement!

My hidden talent is: Being the Reader of the Week

If I could travel back in time, I would love to meet: Captain James Cook and travel with him to Australia and New Zealand.

In the future . . . I intend to grow old disgracefully.

True love Is . . . Waking up in the morning and being happy with who you wake up next to!

My last meal would be: A large plate of battered, deep fried oysters with a crisp chilled white wine.

My first car was: A seventh-hand mini.

The one thing I will never throw out: My wife!

My most embarrassing moment was... Being stopped and given a speeding fine with all my family in the car.I have of course since modified my behaviour

What people may not know about  me is:  I tie trout flies

Wierdest thing in my glovebox: An unused navigation device

My biggest fashion faux pas was: According to my wife and daughters, wearing stripes and checks together

I wish I hadn’t: Worn stripes and checks together

My earliest memory  is: Eating tripe and onions with white parsley sauce (no longer on our menu!)

On my bedside table is: Nothing of interest (light and books)

People say I look like: My father and two brothers

A movie I think everyone should  see: Any of the early James Bond movies.
