As flags were at half mast on Friday morning, about 1500 mourners filled the Good Samaritan Hall at Bede Polding College, South Windsor to celebrate the life of Philip Vassallo.
Philip, 17, died in a car accident at Penrith on July 11.
The hall that seats 1000 people filled an hour before the service, leaving many aged between 16 and 18 outside as they gathered to farewell one of their friends.
Attendees all wore a piece of turquoise as a sign of respect for the 17-year-old, described by his sisters Lauren and Grace as the boy who always wore a smile.
"The kid in the blue Datto was our brother and we are so proud of him," the sisters said in their combined eulogy.
"Though he was only here for a short time, we know he has touched so many lives.
"We knew he was going places; he was excelling at his apprenticeship."
His sisters revealed Philip had been offered a new job on the Thursday morning - the day before his accident.
"He was so excited about starting his new job because it had an airconditioner. We are so sorry that he never got to start it.
"God, we promise that he will be the best roommate you ever had.
"He makes us feel so proud and privileged to call him our family."
Throughout the two hour service, there wasn't a dry eye in the room; emotion had taken over many of the young attendees as their parents sat close by to comfort them.
Philip's mother Colleen was brave as she described her son as the sunshine to her life.
"We live by the quote 'find happiness in making others happy' and we know that is what he has done," Mrs Vassallo said. "Goodbye my loving son."
Philip's best friend, and passenger on the night, Justin brought the hall to a standstill as he spoke openly about their friendship and the night of the accident.
"I rest assure God was with us that night. All of you here, be at piece because now I know there is a heaven," Justin said as he fought back his tears.
"To Philip's parents, you should be the most proud parents because your son has touched so many lives. I am blessed to have known Phil and for him being my best mate."
At the end of the touching ceremony, Windsor police closed off Rifle Range Road as senior students from Bede Polding College and guests formed a guard of honour as they said goodbye to the teenager for one last time.
Police are still investigating the accident.
