A shy Glendenning schoolgirl has been described as having the voice of an angel by Ronan Keating.

Although only at the audition stage Marlisa Punzalan is already being touted as the next teen sensation from Channel Seven's X Factor.

Marlisa, 14, got a standing ovation from the four judges and 4000 fans to progress to the boot camp stage, which begins in a few weeks.

"Wow!" was the reaction from Natalie Bassingthwaighte following Marlisa's rendition of the Beatles classic Yesterday.

"I'm blessed to be given this opportunity," Marlisa told the Star.

"I want to become a better performer and gain experience of working with others. It would give me a lot more confidence and a chance to improve my stage presence and vocal ability."

She was fourth singer in line on audition day and the first act to be aired when X Factor premiered a week ago.

"I was very nervous to be the fourth one to sing and never expected the response I got from the judges," Marlisa said.

"It felt like a dream. All I wanted to do was go out there and do my best."

The Mercy Catholic College year nine student previously appeared on Australia's Got Talent but didn't get past the live audition stage.

Whether it be pop, rock, country or jazz, there's no music genre Marlisa doesn't like.

"Yesterday is one of my favourite songs as it's one you can improvise to," she said.

Marlisa has been singing since she was three and spends at least an hour a day practising.

"I used to sing along to my brother's piano recitals and got lots of feedback, so I wanted to continue," she said. "I'd like to inspire other young people from western Sydney to follow their dreams."

Marlisa hopes to become a professional singer and listed Jessica Mauboy as her idol.

"She's versatile, cool and down to earth," Marlisa said.
