FOR those old enough to remember, the 1960s was an exciting time for fashion — mini skirts, denim, paisley, suede, muumuus, jerkins and witches’ britches, and Hawkesbury Regional Art Gallery is opening an exhibition tonight, Friday, July 11, which showcases a whole swag of actual garments from the period.
Historic clothes collectors and preservationists The Cavalcade of History and Fashion Inc. has assembled this collection of fabulous '60s garments.
Some '60s concepts (disposable knickers) came and went; others (jeans) are now ubiquitous, and some go in and out (stilettos, ballet flats).
Entitled Swinging, the exhibition will run until the end of August.
Tonight’s opening is at 6pm. At 6.30pm '60s expert Helen Parsons will give a talk on the fashion highlights of the decade.
If you book, you can also go on a guided tour of the exhibition by Helen on Saturdays August 9 and 16 which will include personal histories of some of the garments in the exhibition.
