Residents seek pool action now

SAVE Mount Druitt Pool founder Kerri Bradbury says the community needs assurance from Blacktown Council that Mt Druitt Pool will be open this summer.

She joined about 30 people at Blacktown Village Green on Wednesday to protest against the closure of the pool.

Ms Bradbury believes if the council waits until November to consider the findings of a $40,000 viability study there would not be time to plan for its reopening this summer.

Mayor Len Robinson said Ms Bradbury was probably correct.

But said the group was its "own worst enemy".

"They keep insisting you need to re-notify; you have to use that consultant [UWS]; we've literally wasted months," Cr Robinson said.

He said RMP & Associates and Adelaide-based Tredwell Management were awarded the pool consultancy after UWS declined to take part.

"This review should have been finalised by now," Cr Robinson said.

The rally was addressed by Blacktown MP John Robertson, the Opposition Leader, who urged residents to keep up the pressure.

Indira Devi from Blacktown Residents Voice and Anthony Portelli, president of the Rooty Hill RSL Youth Swimming Club, also spoke.
