Castle Hill RSL Rockets win the Excelsior Cup

The annual local derby between Castle Hill RSL Rockets and the Baulkham Hills Soccer Club was played at Eric Mobbs Reserve at Castle Hill last Saturday.

Baulkham Hills lost their Excelsior Cup Charity Day title, with the Rockets winning 2-1.

Two players from the Westfield Matildas also attended the event.

Defender Alanna Kennedy and forward Kyah Simon were kind enough to donate a pair of boots each they had worn at the recent AFC Asian Womens Cup game against Japan.

The boots were used as prizes in the big raffle.

All proceeds from activities held throughout the day will go to breast and ovarian cancer research.

Before the event, the national anthem was sung by the Rockets publicity manager Suzanne Costa, who is a professional and former big band vocalist.

Rockets patron and Baulkham Hills MP David Elliott said he took a ‘‘Swiss-like’’ approach to the competition.

‘‘Given both my sons have had a long time involvement with the Rockets and the Baulko team is made up of my constituents, this was probably the first time I have stood along the sideline and not cheered anyone,’’ Mr Elliott said.

‘‘It's a healthy competition and given the day's focus is on raising money for cancer research I am very proud of the way our local boys played and look forward to next year's rematch.’’
