NRL stars were among more than 300 people who showed their love to St Clair orphans Jonny and Bella Gaudiosi last week.
A Show Your Love benefit night in Granville raised $16,000 for Jonny, 14, and Bella, 12, who lost their mum Julie to cancer in April, two years after losing dad Mario.
Attendees included Canterbury Bulldogs stars Reni Maitua and Josh Reynolds.
Friend and organiser Jayla McMillan-Peterson hailed the night as a success.
She presented the kids with an X-Box and $2000 towards a Queensland holiday with their guardian Sonia Burton later this year.
‘‘Seeing the kids’ faces were priceless,’’ Mrs McMillan-Peterson said.
‘‘The night was everything Julie was about.’’
An online auction started on Sunday and will continue this week.
Items up for grabs include signed Gold Coast Titans and Roosters jerseys, a signed Australian cricket bat, a Geelong Cats AFL jersey, an NRL grand final package with accommodation, NRL tickets, baby hampers and vouchers.
Jonny, 14, and Bella, 12, are are still coming to terms with their recent heartbreak.
‘‘It’s been tough on Bella but Jonny is doing great,’’ Mrs McMillan-Peterson said.
‘‘He’s settled back into school, made new friends and formed a bond with Sonia’s son.’’
Mrs McMillan-Peterson plans to organise a family fun day in St Clair later this year.
Proceeds will go towards renovations on the family home and setting up a trust fund for Jonny and Bella’s futures.
She hopes to continue Show Your Love even after $100,000 is raised for Jonny and Bella.‘‘I’ve opened a can of worms,’’ Mrs McMillan-Peterson said.
‘‘I want to help other kids who have lost their parents.’’
