Mustangs thwart Sydney Bears

The Sydney Bears ice hockey team left Sydney Ice Arena, Baulkham Hills, frustrated after the Melbourne Mustangs got up 5-3 last Sunday, compounding a 4-1 loss against Canberra the previous night.

Jeffery Grant opened the scoring for the visitors, sending a slap-shot past Daniel Palmkvst.

The Bears equalised as Ben DiMarco jammed one home.

It took three penalties before the Mustangs posted the first goal of the second half, Grant grabbing his second of the night on a short-handed breakout.

A penalty to the Mustangs gave the Bears a chance to again equalise and Dane Ludolph obliged.

DiMarco grabbed his second goal to give the faithful a hope of ending a five-game losing streak.

However, the Mustangs equalised on the power play through Viktor Gibbs-Sjodin.

The Mustangs wrapped the game up with a goal to Joseph Hughes and Viktor Gibbs-Sjodin nailing his second.

The Bears face the Brave in Canberra on Saturday before returning to the Sydney Ice Arena on Sunday to face Melbourne Ice.

The Glenwood High student recently won a gold and two silver medals at the state championships.
