Blacktown Council chatter: Community hub opening

THE Ponds Community Hub will be a centre of activity on Saturday, when it is officially opened by Blacktown mayor Len Robinson.

Thousands of people are expected at the celebration of the opening of the $8.7 million building on Riverbank Drive.

There will be activities including demonstrations in cup cake decorating, kids' crafts, face painting, jumping castles, as well as entertainment, from 9am.

An artwork created by 87 children living in The Ponds will be displayed on the kids' craft room window.

"This new facility provides residents of The Ponds a place where they can come together, meet, interact, learn new skills, access education and health services, share ideas and enjoy life," Cr Robinson said of the building that the council will operate.

Jey Mahendra, development director for UrbanGrowth NSW, said The Hub was designed to be a multi-use facility, with different-sized rooms.

It has a meeting/technology room, function rooms, children's art and play area, commercial-style demonstration kitchen and space for community services.
