Hornsby Council’s 100-site bushcare program celebrated 25 years last week. A morning tea was held at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre to thank volunteers, including Barry Lees (pictured) who signed up in 2002 after seeking advice from the council about weeds on his property.
He helps maintain and regenerate Carrs Bush in Fagan Park, Galston, which has a rare and endangered plant community.
“I just love the bush; I get great satisfaction from restoring it to its natural condition,” he said.
“Carrs Bush is in pretty good condition. We take the weeds out and let natural regeneration fill the holes.”
