GALLERY: Kellyville pupil sees different side of school life

Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School in Kellyville had a new leader today.

Year 6 pupil Tamara Blair shadowed principal John Spradbrow as part of the Principal for a Day program, which aims to give students leadership skills and an understanding of the role.

‘‘Principal Blair’’ met with teachers, visited classrooms, and signed student merit certificates.

She also spent recess and lunch in the staff room, attended a lesson taught by Mr Spradbrow and wrote an article on the day’s experiences for the year 6 blog and school newsletter.

‘‘I’ve learnt that being a principal is a big job,’’ she said.

‘‘Every school needs a principal to lead the school and make sure that there is no bullying and everything is safe.

‘‘It takes a lot of phone calls, and is always busy.’’

Mr Spradbrow said it was the first time the school had taken part in the national program.

‘‘I saw the email and thought ‘that looks like fun’,’’ he said.

‘‘What I am trying to give her an insight into is the sorts of things that happen in a school that the kids don’t notice. Organisation, I think, is very seamless in schools.’’
