UPDATE: Galston High's new library on its way

Workmen are a common sight at Galston High School as they continue to dismantle the charred remains of the library that burnt down.

Tomorrow cranes will be brought in to reach the inaccessible sections of the library building’s roof, deputy principal Lisa Pieper said.

‘‘The workmen are concentrating on removing all the metal work so that if the wind picks up it will all be secure,’’ Ms Pieper said.

The footings of a new portable library building will be delivered on Monday, she said.

When firefighters arrived to put out the fire at Galston High on May 19, the school’s multi-storey library block was well alight and the roof of the building already collapsed.

Investigators treated the fire as suspicious initially but then changed their minds.

Principal Jillian Tourlas said the fire appears to have been started by an electrical fault, ‘‘possibly the server or the circuit board’’.
