M2 cyclists should swap routes

Cyclists who normally use the M2 should make alternate arrangements as The Hills M2 is currently building the Lane Cove Road Ramp and carrying out maintenance work at the motorway’s northern embankment at Marsfield, near Vimiera Road.

A Hornsby Council spokesman said that for safety reasons, all eastbound cyclists need to exit the motorway at Pennant Hills Road where they can continue their journey on the alternative cycle toute via Macquarie Park and North Ryde.

Westbound cyclists can travel on the motorway between Delhi Road to the Westlink M7.

Council’s spokesman said the westbound shoulder isn’t suitable for two lanes of cycle traffic, and it’s against the NSW road rules for cyclists to travel against the flow of traffic.

Eastbound travellers shouldn’t use the westbound shoulder as an alternative route either, he said.

Cyclists travelling eastbound will be able to access the motorway after construction is completed in mid-2015.
