THE Blacktown City Festival is back with eight days jam-packed with activities and events for the whole family from the Medieval Fayre to the to the Greener Living Expo and traditional street parade.

Enjoy the magic of medieval culture at Nurragingy Reserve on Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, May 25.

This year, the Medieval Fayre will branch out into something new.

The Birds of Prey show presented by Feathered Friends will take flight for the first time at the festival.

Visitors can see a large and interactive display of traditional "birds of prey", including eagles, hawks and owls that can perform in spectacular freestyle flight.

Visitors will be able to watch the birds perform as well as pat and feel the weight of these highly trained hunters.

The expert team from Sydney-based Feathered Friends not only presents an insight into the ancient art of hawking, but is also dedicated to the conservation of aerial apex predators.

Many of the birds have bonded partners and offspring who follow their natural parental leadership.

The reserve will be transformed into a bustling medieval court for the My Lords and Ladies Medieval Fayre.

This free event is on from 10am to 4pm, with combat displays, musicians, colourful pavilions, period jewellery-making and more.

There will be a spectacular International Jousting Tournament, at which the best riders from New Zealand and England will compete against the Australian champion in a competition for the title.

There will be music from the Baroque and Renaissance periods, with classical influences, and live Celtic music

You may see regal pageants of the past with kings and queens, lords and ladies, and even knights in full armour roaming the festival.

Bring a picnic or buy your lunch from the traditional markets, which will also feature quality arts, crafts, metalwork and fashion.
