HILLS Community Aid needs some extra hands to join their knitting group.
Since April 12, the women meet every week for a few hours to knit for charity.
The group knit trauma teddies, as well as pouches and bags for animals, blankets, booties and scarves.
The items are given to charities chosen by groups as well as emergency services such as hospitals, ambulances and fire brigades.
Not only do the members knit, but crochet and participate in other crafts.
Member Robin Slattery said their sessions were like a social knitting day for charity.
"It's an all year-round demand, not just in the colder months," she said.
When the group doesn't knit for charities, the items are sold and funds go towards medical and research equipment. Program co-ordinator Mici Beer said the group met to do something they loved with like-minded people.
"We've got new people coming in and learning some of the dying arts that we now have," she said.
■ Donations of wool can be left at the Hills Community Aid, 390 Windsor Road, Baulkham Hills, from 9.30am to 3pm.
