Her sister Sheridan is trying to become the first female AFL field umpire and now Kaitlin Dobing wants to play in the first AFL women's competition.
Dobing, 15, is one of three Canberra girls who will play for the NSW-ACT under-18 girls team in the national championships in Canberra, starting on Sunday.
Eloise O'Brien and Jessica Stramandinoli are Ainslie teammates of Dobing, with Queanbeyan's Cassie and Kate Reid are also in the squad, driving up from Goulburn to play for the Tigers.
Dobing will play in the backline for NSW-ACT after missing out on the team last year.
She was hoping they'd be able to improve on last year's winless campaign at the nationals.
"We hope we do really well, because we are a strong team this year and we hope we can get a win on the board," Dobing said.
Dobing only started playing footy two years ago, getting her love of the game through her brother Josh.
"He started playing, my dad started coaching and I started just training along with the boys," Dobing said.
"I never really played until I was 13.
"My sister's been umpiring since she was about 16.
"Our whole family's involved – my other sister plays and my mum's a sports trainer so we just can't get away from footy, but I just love the game."
Her sister Sheridan has had three knee reconstructions, which is about the same number of times Dobing has had her as an umpire.
The NSW ACT team will be coached by former Carlton and Greater Western Sydney forward Setanta O'hAilpin.
The nationals start on Sunday and wrap up on Thursday.
