There are four NSW finalists.

And if Ms Baker’s nominator — her niece, Nicole — is right, then she is a shoo-in for the award.

Ms Baker, 71, is an “angel walking the earth, ready to pick you up when you fall”, said Nicole.

Nicole and her sister were taken in by their aunt after their mother became an alcoholic and abusive.

‘‘Janniece has also been a caregiver to her husband’s parents until they passed and when her own mother passed, she sold her family home to move in with her elderly father,’’ Nicole said.

‘‘She lovingly cared for him until he passed at the age of 94, and now looks after her elderly uncle.’’

Monday’s presentation is at Parliament House, Sydney.

Television presenter Natarsha Belling will be the emcee.

The state winner will join seven state and territory winners and their nominators for three days of festivities in Sydney before the national announcement of the Barnardos Mother of The Year 2014.

Barnardos Australia works with families to keep children safe with support programs and by finding safe homes for abused children through its foster care and adoption programs.

Donations play a critical role in the operation of these vital programs.
