Relay for Life funds

CANCER claimed Susan Franklin of Penrith, aged only 56, in June, 2013.

Her daughter and grandson, Amy and Cody Franklin, of Werrington County, will remember her and raise money to fight cancer in Penrith's annual Relay for Life.

"Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011," Mrs Franklin said.

"After 12 months of treatment they found a tumour in her brain; nothing more could be done."

She said it was hard losing her mother at such an early age.

"Until you go through this, you don't understand what it's like and you never think it could happen to you," Mrs Franklin said.

"But I don't want mum's passing to be without any point.

"I'd like to raise money for cancer research and for programs to help people with it."

Relay for Life takes place at Howell Oval, corner of Station Street and Jamison Road, Penrith, at 9.30am, May 3.
