CLOSING the creche at Baulkham Hills' Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre on Friday has devastated mother-of-two Belinda Eleter who was only able to attend the gym because of the free childminding.

Ms Eleter has no family in the area and says now the creche has closed she will have to end her three-year morning routine of attending the gym because she can't afford to have her three- and four-year-old minded for that hour.

"We're losing our sanity, we're losing our health and the kids are losing their interaction with other kids," she said.

More than 200 people have signed a petition she will give to The Hills Council which owns the building on Mileham Avenue where Waves is situated.

Staff at the centre's management, Belgravia Leisure, declined to comment, except to confirm the creche closed on Friday.

"Waves keep saying the decision has been made due to numbers [she counted 15 kids in the creche on March 21] so why not renovate the childcare and advertise if it's really about low numbers?"

The creche had been running 8am to noon weekdays, providing an indoor and outdoor shaded play area for children aged three months to 5.

Waves also has a 50-metre outdoor heated lap pool, swim school and swim academy which two of Ms Eleter's two friends use on top of the gym and creche.

Ms Eleter said Waves refunded their gym membership pro rata.
