Medicare Saturday trading to stop

Berowra MP Philip Ruddock is warning people planning to visit a Medicare office on Saturday morning to check if they're open first.

Saturday morning trading at Medicare shopfronts is being gradually phased out from tomorrow (March 29) to May 10 due to lack of demand, he said.

Mr Ruddock said with the removal of cash payments last year, coupled with the increasing number of GPs offering electronic claiming and improvements to online self-service options, many customers no longer chose to visit Medicare offices.

Mr Ruddock said staff numbers would not be affected by the changes and the same services would still be available on weekdays.
