Man charged after hijacking car in Mount Druitt

Police have charged a man after a woman was forced from her car at Mount Druitt yesterday.

The man, 23, was charged at Mount Druitt Local Court today with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle from a person, resist arrest and assault police.

Police said a woman, 20, got into her car which was parked at the shopping centre in Carlisle Avenue at about 5.40pm yesterday.

A man approached her and forced her from the car before driving away.

Police said he drove a short distance to the intersection of Carlisle Avenue and Kurrajong Road where he stopped the car in the middle of the road, blocking traffic.

The man then got out of the car and approached another motorist.

At this point officers tried to detain the man and were forced to use capsicum spray when he struggled and punched one of them.

He was handcuffed and taken to Mount Druitt police station.
