Sports in brief: Dural gymnast bounces onto NSW stage

Mary-Louise Fleischner of Dural has been named Gymnastic NSW's 2013 junior levels athlete of the year.

Fleischner trains at the Meriden Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, and 2013 saw her take the level-seven state title and the level-one Australian all-around title in July.

She then represented Australia on the national-levels team that toured New Zealand, finishing third at the New Zealand championships.


Bulls kick off

The Hills Bulls will kick off their trials for the 2014 rugby league season against Belrose at Norford Park, Sefton this Saturday. The game against last year's premiers starts at noon.

Clubs turn pink

West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club will join a thousand other clubs turning pink for the McGrath Foundations Pink Stumps Day this Saturday.

Cherrybrook Public School will the venue for two under-9 charity match to raise funds for breast-cancer research, starting at 8am.

Still in the hunt

The Western Sydney Wanderers are still in the hunt for the A-League Premier's Plate.

Leaders, the Brisbane Roar, suffered a shock 1-0 loss to the Newcastle Jets in Brisbane on Sunday.

The Roar stay seven points clear and the Wanderers, who sat out the weekend with Melbourne Victory, have eight rounds left to overtake the Roar.

The Wanderers will meet the Glory in Perth this Saturday night.
