It follows major boundary changes to the Londonderry electorate last year, which shifted away from Richmond and surrounding areas and is now based around St Marys.

“The boundary changes caused by the electoral re-distribution transferred over 16,000 constituents, I have represented for the past three years, from the old Londonderry electorate seat into the new electorate of Hawkesbury,’’ Mr Bassett said

‘‘As a former Hawkesbury mayor, with over a decade of experience in the region, the new electorate of Hawkesbury will be made up of 95 per cent of people who already connect with me as their established representative. With regard to the new electorate of Londonderry, I understand that a fine, upstanding and engaged local resident has nominated to run for pre-selection as the Liberal Candidate for the 2015 State election. I remain totally committed to providing representation to all of the constituents of the current Londonderry electorate until the election and will continue to push for better services and infrastructure for the whole of Western Sydney as I have done for many years as a member of parliament, mayor and resident.”

It’s believed Penrith Councillor Bernard Bratusa is the new Liberal candidate for Londonderry.

Fellow councillor Prue Car was announced as the Labor candidate late last year.

Created in 1988, Londonderry was previously held by Paul Gibson, the late Jim Anderson and Allan Shearan before Mr Bassett became the first Liberal MP to win the seat in 2011.
