Help prevent abuse

Werrington resident Michele Ellery had so much fun organising her first fund-raiser last year that's she's doing it again this year.

The Queen of Hearts fund-raiser will be held on Saturday, May 3, at the Ropes Crossing Village Green.

There will be market stalls, bands, amusement rides, Harley trike rides, raffles, car and bike show and more to be confirmed.

Proceeds go to Bravehearts, which advocates prevention of child abuse. Mrs Ellery raised proceeds for Redkite at the inaugural fund-raiser.

She is looking for business sponsors for the event.

Study nursing

School leavers, those looking to change careers or people with an interest in caring for others can apply for one of 300 scholarships for the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing program.

NSW Health will run the program in partnership with the Department of Education and Communities, which will see students training at TAFE and the NSW Health Registered Training Organisation at Rozelle and Liverpool.

The program gives students hands-on experience through clinical placements in hospitals and other health facilities.

Graduates will be guaranteed a job offer at a NSW public hospital.

The scholarships will cover the course fees for the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing qualification.

Selection involves a written application, a basic literacy and numeracy test and an interview.

Scholarship applications close February 12.
