Water park opening a public relations fiasco

The hopes of thousands of people looking forward to attending the opening of the new Wet ‘n’ Wild Sydney Park at Prospect tomorrow have been dashed.

Despite having booked tickets by phone and online earlier this year, many have yet to receive their tickets.

The park’s Facebook page is littered with complaints about the service.

One customer, Martin O’Reilly, said the ticketing arrangements had been an unmitigated disaster for many weeks.

‘‘Their booking site has been broken for days now, they are not answering calls or emails and they are not posting apologies or updates on their site,’’ he said.

He said many people who tried to make phone inquiries were put on hold for 20 minutes and then cut off.

‘‘There are thousands of very angry people whose money has been taken but can’t even make a simple online booking for the day.’’

Park director Chris Warhurst apologised for the problems and said staff were doing their best to attend to public bookings.

He said the staff had been swamped by thousands of booking calls by phone and emails daily.

‘‘We are very busy trying to ensure everything would go smoothly when more than 15,000 people attend the opening tomorrow,’’ he said.

Mr Warhurst denied booking on its website and by phone had ‘‘crashed’’ saying people would have to wait a bit longer because of the heavy demand.
