Fire follows explosion at West Pennant Hills

Police are appealing for information after an explosion and fire in a car wash at West Pennant Hills.

Police said witnesses heard an explosion in a car wash on Coonara Avenue about 4am on Wednesday before a fire started in the building.

Witnesses said they saw three men run from the scene to an alleyway behind the car wash and drive off in a silver Honda CRV with black writing on white number plates.

Crime scene investigators examined the building but the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

Four times the limit

Police charged five people for drink driving after 1493 people were breath-tested in The Hills during the long weekend.

One person was charged with a traffic offence and 79 infringements were issued — including 52 people for speeding and 16 people for not wearing a seatbelt.

Police said a Baulkham Hills man, 46, was charged for drink driving and negligent driving when he collided with a black BMW.

Police said he was turning from Dremeday Street, Northmead onto Windsor Road when the crash occurred.

He was found to be more than four times over the legal limit with a reading of .228.

Home invasions

Police are looking for an intruder after four home invasions in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police said three homes on Beaumont Drive and one home on Stratheden Avenue in Beaumont Hills were broken into while people were asleep inside.

One home owner was woken by a noise and saw a man running away but could not give police any further details.

Nothing was reported stolen from the homes.
