THEY have won the hearts of their screaming fans and of UK super group One Direction.
Hawkesbury’s very own 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) have been chosen by One Direction as their supporting act on their upcoming world ‘Take Me Home’ tour.
The four bandmates from 5SOS formally announced their exciting news last Thursday night across all social media websites.
‘‘We have some pretty big news. We’re going on One Direction’s 2013 world tour as their support act,” the boys posted on their official Facebook account last Thursday.
“We’re coming to the UK, North America, New Zealand and Australia.’’
The boys were selected by One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson after he discovered the band’s videos online. ‘‘Louis Tomlinson stumbled across a video of ours on YouTube...he showed the rest of the guys and they really liked what we were doing,’’ the band posted.
‘‘One Direction wanted a band to come on tour with them, and well, we are a band and it’s so cool that we are what they wanted.’’
Ex-Norwest Christian College students, Calum, Luke and Michael’s principal Ian Maynard told the Gazette he was extremely proud of all the boys.
‘‘They were always going to make it, they all worked really hard,’’ Mr Maynard said.
‘‘They should know the whole school community is proud of them. We hope that they are able to carry themselves with dignity as their celebrity status grows.’’
Richmond High School’s deputy principal Lisa Lewis told the Gazette the students and staff couldn’t be prouder of Ashton and his bandmates.
‘‘We are all very excited. He [Ashton] has always been a great role model for our students,’’ Ms Lewis said.
‘‘We want them to just go for it and we want to wish them good luck and that we are proud of them all.’’
Since their announcement of their upcoming tour, the world’s biggest record companies have the local band in their sights.
With the release of their new single ‘Heartbreak Girl’ last week via iTunes, the band’s management team will be fielding plenty of big offers to sign a recording deal for their upcoming debut album.
But it is believed the four boys are keen to stay independent at this stage of their career as they continue writing and recording in London.
5SOS will continue recording their new album in between their international tour, with their album expected to be released by the time the One Direction tour hits Australia in September. The gruelling 110-date world tour will kick off in London,UK, this Saturday before finishing up in Melbourne on Wednesday, October 30.
5SOS and One Direction will be performing at the All Phones Arena in Sydney on the weekend of October 5 and 6 and Wednesday to Saturday, October 23- 26.
