Good fuel for bodies

PUPILS got a pep talk from the NRL's One Community Ambassador and new Panthers NRL halves coach, Trent Barrett, about the importance of exercise, nutrition and leading a healthy lifestyle.

He told them they need to eat the right food, drink 8-10 cups of water a day and restrict "sometimes food" such as chips and chocolate to a few times a week.

"You can't have them every day," Barrett explained.

"As a professional footballer, it was important for me to eat the right food. Putting fuel into your body is like putting fuel into a car. If you put the wrong fuel into your car, it won't work and it's the same if you put the wrong food into your body."

Barrett also spoke about the importance of keeping fit.

"It's about making sure you're active and playing plenty of sport," he said.." "It's important to do something after school and not playing on your Wii or computer. Playing sport means you're getting fit, having fun and making new friends."

He encouraged pupils to follow their dreams.

"You've got to work hard to make them possible," Barrett said.
