The 13-year-old South Windsor resident took out first place in the under 15 years tumbling event after blitzing her fellow competitors with a combined final score of 80.8, a huge 1.4 points above her nearest rival.

Isabella performed a series of electrifying jump, twist and flip movements in her first ‘pass’ (performance) to score 27.2 out of 30, before wowing the judges again in her second pass to score 26.80.

Admitting she was pleased just to make it into the finals, Isabella said she was stoked to perform a near-perfect routine to secure a third pass score of 26.8 and take out the prestigious competition.

“I was so surprised to win, I didn’t think I’d do it,” she said.

“I thought I might have a shot at second place at one stage, but I never thought I’d win.”

Turai’s mother, Veronica, credits much of her daughter’s nationals success to her new coach, Belarus-born tumbler and gymnast Dzmitry Kacham, who has been with the Riverstone School of Tumbling for the last 12 weeks.

“He changed her routine four weeks before Nationals, which usually you would never do, but it worked out well for her,” Mrs Turai said.

“Dzmitry believed she could do harder movements than what she was doing so they worked out a routine that better showed off her ability.”

Performing the huge leaps, jumps, twists, flips and spins is all in a days training for Turai, who will now up her number of training sessions in preparation for the World Championships in Russia next year.

Riverstone School of Tumbling also secured another podium finish with Ryan Balkin placing second in the under 11 years tumbling event.
