Cats purr past Students

24 Jun, 2009 01:00 AM
CLEANER ball skills from a top team proved the difference as UWS Hawkesbury Ag College fell to a 32-5 defeat at the hands of ladder leader Merrylands in NSW Suburban Three Rugby Union at College Oval on Saturday.

The Students produced some of their best rugby of the year in pat- ches, with the result not reflecting the standard of the game, but it was the Cats' ability to hold onto the ball for longer periods and converted their possession into points that brought the home team undone.

Merrylands got a strong start to put scoreboard pressure on the Stu- dents, but they were still in contention when winger Tyson Epihia crossed out wide for what would be their only points just before half time.

The Students were held together by fantastic performances from breakaways Teddy Jennings and Zion Tauamiti, while Paul Hewett was in strong form at halfback.

UWS looked dangerous every time they went into attack and fought the Merrylands forwards off on countless occasions at the other end of the field, but they were cruelled by errors at crucial times at both ends of the field.

The Students have a golden opportunity to record their third win of the season this Saturday when they take on bottom team Brothers at Roseville Chase Oval.
