NORTH Richmond off-road endurance champion Jarrod Bewley has set his sights on proving the Ballards Wellard Yamaha Offroad team wrong after making the switch to the Motorex KTM Offroad Racing Team for this season.
Bewley has signed a one-year contract with KTM after being dumped in Ballards' end of season cost cutting measures despite winning the Australian Four Day Enduro and finishing third in the national series in his first year as a full time professional.
Bewley will also progress from the 450cc E2 class to the 250cc Pro E1 category with KTM.
A sign of the tough economic times, Ballards Yamaha struggled to secure sponsorship and could not guarantee Bewley a ride for 2010, also dropping fellow Four Day category winner Kirk Hutton.
"It was a bit scary, but after I got back to Australia after the Six Day Enduro, I got onto KTM," Bewley, who has increased his core strength and fitness through regular workouts at North Richmond's McGlashan's Gym, said.
"I knew the guys there and they gave me a ride.
"It was all arranged and finali- sed in December."
Motorex KTM has added two other No.1 plate riders to the team this year, with Toby Price to compete in Bewley's old E2 class and Ben Grabham in E3.
Speaking about KTM's reshuffle for this season, team manager Brad Williscroft said, "we felt it was time to invest in Australia's best riders to represent an area where our sales are strongest, and this was in the off-road market."
With his spot in the team secured and the turbulent times behind him, Bewley has his sights set on securing more great results in 2010.
"Definitely I want to win my class and I'm looking forward to this year's Australian Four Day Event," he said.
"I'm in a good team, the bikes are good, now it all comes down to me."
The new-look Motorex KTM Offroad Racing team will make its debut at the first round of the Australian Offroad Championships in March.
