THE Sieders Racing Team sco- red a fantastic 20th place in the L&H 500 at Phillip Island on the weekend, beating several V8 Supercar Champion- ship teams in the process.
The Jesus All about Life car, driven by David Sieders and Andrew Fisher, stayed out of trouble during the 113-lap endurance race and claimed an excellent result on their V8 Supercar Championship Ser- ies debut.
SRT now heads to the Super- cheap Auto Bathurst 1000 brimming with confidence, with their 20th place finish making them the first wild- card entry across the line of the three that started, vindicating their decision to lease the 888 BF Ford Falcon driven to Bathurst glory by Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup in 2006.
The unique Phillip Island format gave Sieders and Fish- er plenty of laps before the start of the 500km race, with Fisher, who replaced an ill Colin Sieders in the team, qualifying 31st of 32 and finishing 29th, while Sieders qualified 28th and finished an encouraging 15th.
Sieders started the Phillip Island race and handed the car over to Fisher in 10th position ? the highest position they ran during the event, and Fis- her played a solid role by kee- ping a cool head, despite having only limited experience in a V8 Supercar.
The only real issue was during the final pitstop where a seatbelt mix-up cost them 20 seconds and potentially 17th place.
The result ensured SRT kept its 100pc finishing record in V8 Supercar Championship races intact after it had both cars finish in the Bathurst 1000 nine years ago.
"This result nearly feels like a win," Sieders said.
"We accomplished what we came here to do, which was finish, we were the best of the Wildcard entries and we had no problems and finished 20th.
"I thought Andrew did a perfect job ? he didn't go off the track once, his times impro- ved through the whole weekend and he wasn't that much slower than me.
"We head to Bathurst now with a great bunch of knowledge ? both Andrew and I have driven V8s there before, the car knows its way around the track so hopefully we can get another good strong result."
The team will turn its focus to finishing even higher on the famed Mt Panorama on October 11.
