Shane Mott grabs 200th first grade victim

HAWKESBURY paceman Shane Mott notched up his 200th wicket in the top grade during his carer best destruction of North Sydney on Saturday.

Just shy of his 25th birthday, Mott has almost singlehandedly led the Hawks' pace attack and has kept himself injury free for the past six seasons, proving he is well over the serious back injuries which halted his career as a junior.

Evidence of Mott's success is the majority of his wickets are top order batsmen and he has a long list of first class scalps.

The Pitt Town junior is one of the hardest trainers in the club, regularly seen running up and down Bensons Lane prior to practice sessions, giving him the ability to bowl long spells and 30 overs or more in a day.

His 6/26 in the first innings and 9/98 for the match lifted him to equal third on the Sydney Cricket Association's first grade wickettaker list with 34 scalps at an impressive 21.44.

Hawkesbury coach Andrew Sadleir said Mott was well regarded in the first grade competition and deserved higher honours.

"Shane has proven to be one of the most consistent bowlers over many seasons, always figuring in the top group of wicket takers," Sadleir said.

"It's often said by players among the clubs that he should be given a chance at the next level, the Sec- ond XI, but the State selectors for some reason seem to brush him and pick players who either do well in age cricket programs or put a few good games together.

"But the real test is what you do in first grade and your consistency, and Shane can't do any more to put his name forward.

"To reach 200 wickets is a fantastic feat and the club congratulates Shane on this achievement."
