Ron's ton sets up Glossodia charge

28 Oct, 2009 10:29 AM
A MAGNIFICENT century from middle order batsman Ron denAdel has put Glossodia in a strong position heading into the second day of its Hawkesbury District Cricket Association clash against Freemans Reach at Richmond Park.

denAdel rescued the Gladia- tors from a perilous 4/35, dominating the Maroons' bowling to make 110 to lead his team to 9/245 after match was transferred from Woodbury Reserve when that ground was decla- red unsafe for play.

After being sent in, Glossodia was in trouble early when Chris Gordon (4/51) and Guy Lindo (3/29) took two early wic- kets each, but denAdel found strong support in a 70-run stand for the fifth wicket with R Vigar (24) and 59 for the seventh with Anthony Kitching (41no) to build a score they would give themselves a good chance of defending.

North Richmond crashed back to Earth with a thud as it was smashed by Schofields at Oakville Oval.Coming off a great outright win over Free- mo, the Panthers romped to 31 without loss before the wheels fell off in the blink of an eye and they crumbled to be all out for a paltry 84.

Brett Hannon made his long awaited return after three years travelling in Europe a memorable one when he took 5/15 off eight overs to rip the heart out of Northo's batting, which submitted in just 23.2 overs.

The Scorpions took the crea- se in search of quick runs and they got them through an 85-run second wicket stand bet- ween Jeremy Bourke (53) and Greg Haynes (45), and alth- ough they lost regular wickets after that as Jack Pascoe took 3/15, they were still able to declare at 7/170 in 33 overs to have another crack at their rattled opponents.

The move paid off, with Nor- tho battling to 2/42 at stumps, still 44 runs short of making Schofields bat again.

Five catches from wicketkeeper Tim Creamer has Pitt Town in a solid position aga- inst Maroota at Woodlands.

Creamer accepted edges from the top five Blues' batsmen as Maroota worked hard to reach 206 after being 4/36 and 8/131 against some exc- ellent bowling from Andrew King (3/23), with Ben Jones' 49 and No.10 Ted Tully's 39no the pick of the batsmen.

Creamer and Luke Power then went on the attack late in the day, racing to 46 in just nine overs before Creamer was bowled by Glen Gittins on the last ball of the day for 26, leaving 161 to get with nine wickets in hand.
