SOUTH WINDSOR mother of three, Marieke Troncoso, knows what it’s like to lose a toddler in a crowd. Having three adventurous children, she’s no stranger to those frantic shopping centre searches.
As many parents know, getting your kids to keep an ID wrist tag on is a struggle, and writing contact details onto your little one’s arms either sweats off or gets rubbed off during a day’s adventures.
So this enterprising young mum devised a great way for kids to want to wear identification details – funky, eye-catching tattoos.
Ms Troncoso is the creator of Tat your Tot, children’s personalised identification temporary tattoos which she believes are the first of their kind available anywhere.
They’re a fun, simple, yet ingenious way of identifying children and their special needs.
The tattoos are long-lasting, safe to use and come in a range of designs guaranteed to tickle the interest of your toddler. They are handy to keep in your wallet or bag so they’re always with you when you’re out.
The idea behind this new product, launched early 2008, came from Ms Troncoso’s frustration in trying to find an identification product that her kids couldn’t easily take off.
“I came up with the concept when my middle child disappeared in the busiest shopping centre in Sydney during the Christmas rush in a 300 table food court,” she said.
“He was only two at the time and hadn’t yet mastered the art of speech. I don’t think I have ever been so scared in my life, especially when I realised he wasn’t able to tell anyone who he was, let alone that he suffered from asthma.”
Like all good entrepreneurs, Ms Troncoso did plenty of market research, experimenting with product trials on her family's and friends children.
Ms Troncoso operates her newly-established business online, and her website features a whole range of trendy designs to choose from. They’re bright and colourful to appeal to toddlers.
All you need do is choose a design, nominate what personal details you want displayed on the tattoo and place your order.
You can have anything from the child’s or parent’s name and phone number to any allergies or medical alerts.
“The only hard thing will be convincing your child to wash it off before it wears off,” Ms Troncoso said.
She added that one of the most reassuring things to know about the tattoos was that all the important information was easily displayed for well-meaning adults to see.
