RUMOURS that swine flu had infiltrated one of our local schools have been dismissed by the Department of Education and the school in question.
Windsor High School was fielding phone calls from concerned parents last week after students started a rumour that one of their peers had contracted swine flu.
The Gazette contacted the school last Friday and was informed by the Deputy Principal, Jamie Galbraith, that there was "absolutely no truth" to the rumour.
Mr Galbraith said students had started a rumour about a particular student because she had been away from school.
An assembly was held last Friday to explain to students that no-one at the school had the virus.
Meanwhile the Department of Education said there were still no confirmed cases of swine flu in any of the State's public schools.
A spokesperson said 36 students from the Western Sydney area had been excluded from school, with 19 still away [as of June 5], and nine staff had been quarantined as a precaution, with six still excluded from school.
The Department has posted guidelines on its website, which advises that children who have travelled to greater metropolitan Melbourne, Mexico, Panama, USA, Canada and Japan be excluded from school for seven days after their return.
As of yesterday, there were 15 confirmed cases of swine flu in Sydney's West and 95 throughout NSW.
Hawkesbury District Health Service said it has not been notified of any new Hawkesbury cases to date.
